Its Hard Work But It's Part of My Job!

One of my favorite things to do is go walking at night with Mommy after dinner. She gets her sneakers on, grabs my leash and we hit the sidewalk! What many do not know is that this is not just an exercise session or a bathroom walk. This is a doggie ritual of much importance to the world!

Of course, the first thing I do when I go out is stick my snout in the wind and get the latest news on who’s been where and what they left behind, if anything. This is essential, and yet mommy insists on interrupting my a-roam-a-therapy session with her prods for me to stop running and slow down!

This is my neighborhood watch time, which is serious business. I am monitoring the entire street for friend and foe; all mere steps from my front door. In fact, I used my bulldog superpowers just the other day when I eyed some scary looking boxlike object at the end of our neighbor’s driveway. Without hesitation, I rushed at the offender, and sniffed it with intent of letting it know I knew it was an intruder! Mommy kept saying it’s just a trashcan, but what she doesn’t realize is how dangerous this ‘trashcan’ was before I rendered it harmless.

In the course of our nightly walk, what Mommy doesn't seem to understand is that I cannot just poo in any old place. Sniffing for the perfect spot takes time. It's a precise decision and cannot be rushed. So, I continue patiently with my efforts to train Mommy! She's more stubborn than this old dog by far.

Nightly walks, proper poo spots, and defenders of the universe are all fine arts. It has taken time, not to mention some of the best genetics to hone these skills that are far superior to those of a human. While Mom may never understand, you can feel safe knowing that I and other evening guardians are out and about patrolling neighborhood streets all over the country to keep the world safe from these dangerous intruders that humans like to call 'trashcans' lurking at the end of driveways.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie!

First let me make it very clear that I am not a morning dog. I'm a bulldog (just in case you haven't noticed) and it's in my genes to be lazy.

I have my own bed in my parents room but because I'm king of the house, I get to sleep on the big king size bed with Mommy and Daddy most of the time, and believe me, I take full advantage of the situation and spread my bullie body out across the middle of the bed, leaving very little room for my parents.

My parents wake up early to get ready for what they call "work". I'm unsure exactly what that means but I get a Budda Bone every afternoon when they get home, so I like it!

My dad is considerate and gets his things together the night before so all he has to do is get up and go in his bathroom to ge ready. He's not much of a morning person. He always closes the bedroom door leaving Mommy and me sleeping. I usually stretch out in his spot cause it's nice and warm....ahhh, I'm a lucky dog!

Mommy on the other hand....she's a whole other story. Mornings don't seem to bother her so much. She gets up, flips on the light, says, "good morning bru bear", causing me to wake up from my essential bulldog slumber. Not very considerate if you ask me.

This brings up the question, Is it even considered morning when it's still dark outside? I think not!

Remembering Molly

~~ Molly 1998-2008 ~~
I want to take a minute and reflect back on my birth mommy, Molly. She died last year on September 9th. She died of a heart attack suddenly so her death was a big surprise to all of us. She was 11 years old. Dad picked Molly out of a litter of puppies from Wisconsin so technically she was a Yankee but she had the heart of a Southern Belle. They had a connection like no other. Dad didn't go anywhere without her and boy did she love him! She was very protective of him.
I was born on February 15, 2001 along with my two brothers (Dexter and Bandit). From the very beginning mom and I were the closest. Dexter went to live with my Uncle Josh and Aunt Nicole next door and Bandit went to live with some friends of the family. Which left me and mom against the world. There was nothing we didn't do together! Not only was she my four legged mommy, she was my best friend.

~~I loved resting my head on Molly~~

My human parents got married on May 15, 2004 and we moved into a new house. It took some time for Molly to accept our new mom because she was so over protective of our dad. It wasn't that she didn't like her, she just didn't like that mom got dad's attention. Molly realized that our new mom was actually a "softy" for us and would let us get away with just about anything, and they became very close. Me, I totally warmed up to our new mom from the very beginning ....but that's a different blog! We all became one big happy family.

Our house hasn't quite been the same since September 9, 2008. We miss Molly very much, but we know she looks over us and we are thankful for all the precious priceless memories we have of her and the wonderful time we got to spend with her. She was definately one of a kind. Her memory will always live in our hearts!

9/11 Dogs-Remember

September 11th, 2001, this country that I live in suffered an attack on our soil that took many lives. I was a young pup then but I remember the tragedy. All the humans were silent and watching the TV with sadness and disbelief.

I know now, that a lot of human lives were lost that day, and many more were heroic in their struggles to save others. The best and worst of humanity came out that day, but we should not forget the best of the canines that were willing to give their lives as well in their duty. Not only those search and rescue dogs that worked side by side with the fireman and other humans, but the ones who simply came to the scene as strays to offer comfort and support.

The dogs at home that layed in their parents laps and licked their tears from their faces. Many families lost loved ones that day. Many dogs lost their owners. They don't always understand why their favorite human no longer comes home to feed them or pet them. This day will never be encompassed by any single mind, human, canine, feline, etc. There are too many facets and the tragedy is too great.

Where ever there is human tragedy, there is always a dog offering kindness in the background.

RIP those who died on this day and a Salute to those Dogs of 9/11.

Meet the Dog Behind the Words

Hi everyone. My name is Brutus. As I was browsing the web today looking for tasty treats and fun toys for my parents to buy me, I came across an interesting blog written by a dog. I thought to myself, I may just be an old dog, but I can learn that trick.

I have nothing better to do while the parents are working then watch FoxNews and Gossip shows all day and meander around the backyard peeing on Mom's roses. I've learned a lot of things and have a lot of opinions, when I feel like actually expressing them. So here I am, bouncing around the blogging world.
I enjoy the normal things, like a good belly rub, a walk through the park, wind in my face and a full bowl of kibble oh and lets not forget my favorite, Booda Bones, they are the best!! I'm a little bit spoiled...okay so, I'm a lot spoiled, but I know I deserve it. ( I let my parents think they run things around here out of respect.)

I'm looking forward to this new hobby and all my new friends that will follow me. The great thing about the internet is I don't have to sniff everyone's butt when I meet them. Man, there are some hygiene-challenged people and dogs out there!
